Ongoing developments and latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer 

 

Course Description 

This multidisciplinary conference will allow its participants to gain a greater understanding and knowledge about the individualized treatment of thoracic malignancies for diverse population of patients. Each year, more is learned about the advancements in medicine and technology and how this will impact the way healthcare professionals work together to improve individualized patient care.  The physicians of the Thoracic Oncology Clinic at the Brown Cancer Center at the University of Louisville are full-time faculty who will share their knowledge about the latest advances in their respective fields. 

 

Target Audience  

Physicians in the following specialties:  Primary Care, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Pulmonary Medicine. The target audience also includes nurses and nurse practitioners.      

 

Learning Objectives 

  • Discuss interventional pulmonology and the impact on diagnosing and treatment of early stage lung cancer. This includes use of Navigational Bronchoscopy.
     
  • Identify the options available for surgical removal of lung cancer. This includes use of the robotic surgical procedures.
     
  • Review research being done at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center for lung cancer.
     
  • Explore the different radiation techniques being utilized to treat and re-treat recurrent lung cancer.
     
  • Identify the different radiation techniques being utilized to treat and re-treat recurrent lung cancer.
     
  • Review the history of progress in lung surgery.
